Q: What can be printed on dog tags?
A: It's up to you - you can have anything you want imprinted on dog tags. You may choose to have your tags printed the same way as the military see Formats . However, you can personalize the text on your dog tag to include anything. It may include personal information, a message, medical information, advertising, promotions, property information, etc.

Q: Why have more than one complete set?
A: You don't need to order more than one complete set. However, tags have numerous good uses and when you order more than one complete set, the cost per tag decreases. The military isses two dog tags per soldier. The reason is that as morbid as it may sound, in the unfortunate situation of a soldier being killed in combat, one tag would stay with the soldier (usually on the smaller tag, called a toe tag, the other would go to next of kin). Obviously, you would not need two tags for such a purpose. However, if you have more than one complete set then you may tag other items or share similar messages with a friend or loved one.

Q: What if I want to print different messages on each tag?
A: No problem. Please indicate the different message for each tag on your order.

Q: Can I have my tags imprinted with UPPER CASE and lower case letters?
A: We only imprint using UPPER CASE letters. Our imprinting is identical to the case and style letters used by the military.

Q: I ordered my tags on line. Do I get a receipt for my order?
A: Yes, once your order has been processed, we review your order to verify that we understand the order and the tag information you wish to have printed. Upon verification, a receipt is issued confirming your order. This is your confirmation that we have accepted your order and have begun scheduling the making of your custom tag set. Receipts/confirmations are processed within 24 hours of placing an order.

Q: I placed my order on line and did not receive a receipt or order confirmation, why?
A: It is rare that this situation occurs. However, not impossible. Please email us as soon as possible. We will research your order and provide you an explanation. Sometimes orders placed on Fridays may take until Monday to be received into our system. The most common problem we encounter is that we receive orders without a correct email, shipping address, or phone number and we have no way of contacting you. Again, this is extremely rare. We want you to be happy...so, please contact us and let us know.

Q: When will my order be shipped?
A: Once you have received your receipt/confirmation, we strive to turnaround orders within 24-48 hours. During peak seasons (holidays) or for unusually high volume orders it may take 48 hours or longer. We will contact you should we need additional time.

Q: What are these silencers?
A: They are rubber edged guards designed to fit around the outer edges of the dog tag. It keeps the tags silent. As a result of the wide selection of colors, they add a fashion flair in addition to keeping your tags from clanking.

Q: Can silencers be removed from my tags?
A: Yes, it is very easy. Just remove the tag from your chain, then pull the silencer off the tag. That's it!

Q: What are the most popular silencer colors?
A: Most people order their tags with black silencers. The military uses black silencers. However, we offer a wide selection of colors, including, black, blue, green, orange, red, yellow, and clear. Children really like the color selection as do many adults. To see our selection visit our Order Information page.

Q: Which type of dog tag does the military use?
A: The military uses the dull or matte finish stainless steel. The exact same tags we offer. There are some branches of the military that use black tags. We only provide the traditional dog tags made in the USA of stainless steel in shiny and dull finishes. We also provide the original metal used for dog tags, solid brass.

Q: Will the solid brass dog tags tarnish?
A: Yes, indeed they will tarnish. Many of our customers prefer the patina that aged brass obtains over time. However, if you prefer a high gloss gold like shine, we recommend using Brasso Polish. It works great. To see exact pictures of any of our dog tags, please visit our Catalog.

Q: What is the difference between emboss and indent printing on dog tags?
A: Each of the printing processes use a stamp and cannot be produced by engraving (scratching the surface). The emboss and indent processes are much superior to engraving.

Emboss means the letters are raised up from the surface. Embossing is the same process used on credit cards.

Indent, the original stamping process used on dog tags, means that the letters are pressed downward into the metal.

Mustangtags primarily uses the indent process for imprinting tags. It is the original and authentic process used for decades. We do take special orders for embossing and can handle volume imprinting of logos. If you have a special metal imprinting need, please contact us for a quote. We can be reached through our sales group at sales@mustangtags.com

Q: Okay, so which style of printing does the military use? Emboss or Indent?
A: The U.S. military used indent for more than 50 years exclusively. In 1980, embossing was first introduced. Now the military splits its printing about 50% emboss and 50% indent. It really depends on what type of machinery is available to the branch and unit of armed forces.

Q: I am providing personal information to your organization in the making of my tags, is it safe?
A: Yes, it is safe. We are in business to provide quality products to our customers at very reasonable prices. We have been in business for many years and can appreciate your concerns over confidential information. We have taken extraordinary measures to protect all information on our databases. We use secured servers for order processing and maintaining personal information records. Once your tag has been crafted, we keep shipping and payment information on file. The information that was used to craft your tags is held on file for 30 days from date of shipment, then destroyed.

Q: Once I place an order, will my name and contact information be sold or provided to any third parties?
A: NO. We respect your right to privacy. We will not use, sell or give any information that you provide to us to any outside sources or third parties.
